There are certain things that people consider exotic--wild beasts, thick jungles, uncharted lands with names no one but the natives can pronounce--but what happens when a person grows up living such in a dream, surrounded by gold and riches, the ultimate paradise on a plate? The extraordinary becomes ordinary, mundane, and even if lockstep living comes with all the perks, the sense of purpose and drive is all too easily lost.
Such was the case for a young woman named Chel. Born and raised in a town known as El Dorado, Chel spent the majority of her days around peers with bronzed skintones, raven-colored hair, identical in nearly every way--until one looked below the surface, where Chel had a sense of adventure and longing to explore beyond the city walls, to seek something beyond that which life had chosen to give her. She had other reasons, of course--none of them were important enough for her to delve into detail about, really--but the only thing she really needed was the courage with which she managed to sneak into the town's temple, pilfering a piece of treasure in order to pay her way out of her confined corner of the world.
The opportunity came soon enough, when two fair-skinned foreigners named Miguel and Tulio stumbled across her town, foreigners with strange clothes and hair, with great ambitions but hardly the intellect or common sense to back them up. Gods, the natives called them. Idiots, Chel mentally corrected. But convenient idiots in the sense that they finally presented Chel with a possible means to leave El Dorado.
A few days, run-ins with the high priest, run-ins of a completely different kind with Tulio, and perhaps several hundred pounds' worth of gold later, Chel and her two boys found themselves without any profit from their scam, but with an open road and willing minds ahead of them.
She was finally living the life she'd always yearned for.

[character abilities]: In addition to having a rather sharp wit and the ability to keep a straight face while lying, Chel possesses the ability to strategize on the spot, resulting in her being very adept at manipulating others.
[character personality]:
Wily, catty, always doing all she can in order to get her way-- Chel's a woman with a purpose, and, having few inhibitions or ties to hold her back, she isn't afraid of stepping on others in order to make it there. On the surface, she's quite open, quick to point out flaws in someone else's plans, ideas, or even the people themselves, usually with a sarcastic tone to her voice. Dig a little deeper, however, and one will find that Chel can be a bit of a softie--her feelings towards Tulio and Miguel certainly are far deeper than they appear, particularly that of the former, who Chel has developed a romantic relationship with.
